Severe thunderstorm 'Watch' upgraded to 'Warning' by Environment Canada

Oct 1 2019, 8:30 pm

It’s about to get nasty in Toronto.

Environment Canada has just upgraded its severe thunderstorm watch to a warning for this afternoon and evening.

According to the weather agency, “strong to severe thunderstorms are moving eastward at 90 km/h.”

Because of this, isolated wind gusts of 90 km/h, frequent lightning, torrential downpours, and small hail may occur.

Environment Canada says heavy downpours are likely to cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

Additionally, severe thunderstorms are also capable of producing tornadoes.

“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors,” said Environment Canada in a statement.

Whatever you have planned for this evening, stay safe (and dry), Toronto.
