Shanee, a new all-day South East Asian snack bar just replaced Soi Thai

Aug 29 2017, 9:40 pm

Soi Thai in Toronto’s Little Italy neighbourhood shuttered for renovations earlier this summer but the Thai street food spot isn’t coming back. A new spot for South East Asian small plates has opened in its place.

Soi Thai owner Sherry Papa has revamped the space, transforming it from a street food market-inspired eatery into a sleek all-day destination open morning to late for coffees to cocktails.

The menu is all new too, offering coconut croissants and toasts topped with avocado or pineapple jam in the morning before transitioning to shareable small plates as the day progresses.

Look forward to deep fried cubes of mozzarella served with a tom yum sauce, Peking duck cold rolls, green curry cassava poutine, Chiang Mai hot dogs, seafood buckets, and so more on the all accommodating menu. Both vegans and meat-eaters alike will find ample options.

In the evenings, expect a dim sum-like tray service meaning that servers will circulate with ready-made selections.

Meanwhile, at the bar the line-up of beverages from Drink Smith’s Stefano Pilla and Dani Yoon, includes Soju infusions in flavours like pineapple, tamarind vanilla, and spicy chili, and cocktails such as a Thai-spiced Caesar and a Halo Halo-inspired libation.
