All the road closures happening in Toronto on May 11 and 12

The city is going to be booming (and blooming!) this weekend.

From the projected peak bloom of the cherry blossoms at High Park to a 10k and a Raptors tailgate party, there’s a lot going on. And because of all the happenings, there are going to be road closures you’ll want to be aware of.

These are the spots you’ll want to steer your car away from on May 11 and 12.

Cherry blossoms at High Park – all weekend

All vehicle access points for High Park will continue to be closed daily to accommodate peak bloom season for cherry blossoms. Residents and visitors are asked to ride public transit where possible.

And don’t forget: if High Park is too crowded for your liking, there are plenty of other spots in the city where cherry blossoms can be seen, and many are already blooming!

Meagan’s Walk for Sick Kids Foundation – May 11, 7 am to 4 pm

Elizabeth Street between Gerrard Street East and Elm Street will be closed on Saturday, May 11 from 7 am to 4 pm for this annual walk.

University of Toronto Science Rendezvous – May 11, 6 am to 6 pm

St. George Street between College Street and Harbord Street, and Russell Street between Huron Street and St. George Street will be closed on Saturday, May 11 from 6 am to 6 pm for this event.

Parkdale Sidewalk Sale and Street Festival – May 11, 6 am to 8 pm

Cowan Avenue south of Queen Street West to the alleyway will be closed on Saturday, May 11 from 6 am to 8 pm for this festival.

Opening of George Chuvalo Centre – May 11, noon to 5 pm

Sousa Mendes Street between Ruskin Avenue and Macaulay Avenue will be closed on Saturday, May 11 from noon to 5 pm for this event. A map of theĀ closureĀ is availableĀ here.

Sporting Life 10K – May 12, 4:30 am to 12:30 pm

A series of full and rollingĀ closuresĀ will be in effect at various times between 4:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to accommodate this running event on Sunday, May 12. Parts of collector/arterialĀ roadsĀ and localĀ roadsĀ will experience rollingĀ closures. Highlights include:

  • Yonge Street between Davisville Avenue and Richmond Street
  • Parts of Richmond Street (East and West),
  • Parts of Jarvis Street
  • Parts of Adelaide Street (East and West)
  • Parts of York Street
  • Parts of Peter Street and Blue Jays Way
  • Part of Front Street West
  • Parts of Bathurst Street
  • Parts of Fort York Boulevard.

Environment Days community event – May 12 from 5 am to 5 pm

Borden Street from Harbord Street to Lennox Street will be closed on Sunday, May 12 from 5 am to 5 pm for a local Environment Days event.

Toronto Raptors tailgate and viewing party – May 12 from 7 am to midnight

Bremner Boulevard from Lake Shore Boulevard West to the east side of the parking garage at 25 York St. will be closed on Sunday, May 12 from 7 am to midnight for activities tied to the Toronto Raptors, game concluding their basketball playoff series.

In addition to road closures related to special events, a significant amount of road work is taking place in the city.

As a result of this, people are encouraged to take public transit as a greener, faster and more affordable way of getting to their destinations. Those who need to drive in the general vicinity of special events should allow extra time to get to and from their destinations.
