Porter Airlines officially resuming flights in September

Porter Airlines is officially returning its planes to the sky this fall.

Following a near 18-month flight suspension, Porter will resume its Canadian flights in phases starting on September 8.

The first US routes will restart on September 17, with other routine destinations picking up on October 6.

“This is the moment our team members, passengers, and the communities we serve have been waiting for,” said Michael Deluce, Porter’s president and CEO.

“The pandemic has progressed to the point that we can now begin restoring service across our network, focused around our main base at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.”

All fares purchased before July 20 for travel through December 15 will be fully refundable to give passengers peace of mind. This will apply to Porter’s vacation packages, too.

Porter has introduced several new health and safety measures to keep travellers safe, including the regular sanitization of planes, modifying onboard service, and having passengers exit by row.

“While deciding to suspend our service was the most difficult business decision we’ve made, announcing a restart of flights is the first step in a recovery process that includes recalling hundreds of team members and welcoming back passengers,” Deluce said.

“We are looking forward to once again delivering Porter’s unique style of service.”

Porter first suspended operations on March 21, 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic began. June 1, 2020, was initially set as a restart date, but that was continuously extended.
