Man dead after shooting at house party at York Region Airbnb

A male was shot to death at a party at an Airbnb rental in York Region on Friday morning.

Just after 4 am on Friday, May 3, police were called to 6336 Bloomington Road East in the area of Whitchurch-Stouffville for reports of a shooting, according to York Regional Police.

Andy Pattenden, a spokesperson for York Regional Police, told Daily Hive authorities believe the house was rented out and that there was a party happening there overnight,

When officers arrived they located a man who was deceased, from an apparent gunshot wound.

Shortly after, police were called to a residence on Bethesda Road after two men had been knocking on doors looking for someone to call them a taxi.

When officers arrived they located two males hiding in nearby bushes and they were placed under arrest. Officers also located a handgun near where the men were arrested.

Police have not confirmed if these two incidents are related.

According to police, it’s believed there were many people in attendance at the time of the shooting who left prior to police arrival.

“The safety of our community is our priority, and our thoughts are with the victims of this senseless tragedy,” said Ben Breit, Airbnb Public Affairs.

“There is no place on Airbnb for such an abhorrent act, which violates everything our Canadian community stands for. We stand ready to work with local law enforcement and support their investigation.”

Breit added the booking guest has been removed from Airbnb and the listing has been suspended while the company investigates.
