Almost 300 Ontario schools have reported positive coronavirus cases

The Government of Ontario is reporting 52 more coronavirus cases in schools, bringing the total to 342 in the province.

In the September 30 update, 32 of the new cases are student-related, eight are staff-related, and 12 are unidentified.

The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.

Of the total cases, 83 are in several Toronto schools among students and staff.

Ottawa region schools share the same amount of total reported confirmed cases with 83 as well.

As for GTA schools, 30 are reported from Brampton, 19 from Mississauga, and 11 in Oakville.

Three schools now remain closed due to the ongoing increase in cases reported.

In licensed child care centres, there are now 136 total confirmed cases, as well as 39 centres and 199 homes closed.

As Toronto sees an increase in school reported cases, the Toronto District School Board has issued an update to their mask guidelines, requiring parents and guardians to wear masks during pick-ups and drop-offs at schools.

The Government of Ontario has confirmed 625 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday morning, an increase from Tuesday’s 554.

Heading into October, Ontario is forecasting 1,000 daily coronavirus cases in the first half of the month as the province continues in an upward trajectory.

In order to reduce the spread of coronavirus, Premier Doug Ford announced that social gatherings in Toronto, Peel, and Ottawa will be limited to 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.
