The Government of Ontario is reporting 56 more coronavirus cases in schools, bringing the total to 876 across the province.
In the October 9 update, 32 of the new cases are student-related, nine are staff-related, and 15 are unidentified.
There has been a reported 628 school-related cases in just two weeks, and 248 cases reported 14 or more days before that.
The numbers are announced daily at 10:30 am on the province’s school and childcare centre coronavirus-tracking website.
Of the total cases, 182 have been reported in several Toronto schools among students and staff.
The TDSB’s Martingrove Collegiate Institute is reporting eight cases from students, the most in the GTA in a single school.
As for other schools in the region, 42 are reported from Brampton, 28 from Mississauga, and 11 from Oakville.
Ontario has now reported four school closures out of the 429 schools with reported cases.
In licensed childcare centres, there are now 236 total confirmed cases, as well as 57 centres and 285 homes closed.
The Ontario government’s October prediction that forecasts 1,000 new daily coronavirus cases by mid-October was almost met as Friday’s reported numbers hit 939 new cases — the highest single-day count to date.
In the past few days, cases have been significantly high with Thursday’s 797, Wednesday’s 583, Tuesday’s 548, Monday’s 615, Sunday’s 556, Saturday’s 653, and Friday’s 732.
