A male teen from Mississauga has been arrested and charged in connection to an online incident involving child pornography, according to Peel Regional Police.

A joint investigation by local police, the RCMP, and the FBI began after an anonymous person hacked into private chat conversations on a popular online group meeting app, and allegedly began to stream offensive material in May.

The FBI found evidence that indicated the suspect was located in Mississauga, and began to coordinate with the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Crime Centre (NCECC) in Ottawa. The NCECC sent the information to the Peel Police ICE unit, and the suspect was found and apprehended.

The 17-year-old teen was arrested on October 29 and was charged with accessing, possessing, and making available child pornography, and was seen in Peel regional court on October 30 in Brampton.

The Peel Regional Police asks that anyone with information regarding this investigation to please contact investigators within the Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
