It’s official: The cherry blossoms at High Park will be blooming this weekend!
Earlier this morning, the Sakura Cherry Blossoms in High Park website posted the following update:
Sakura Watch, April 17, 2017 surprise! Cherry blossoms bloom begins this weekend as we see most of the buds florets emerging from the sakura buds! Call it an Easter miracle, a sign of climate change or an answer to wishes of thousands of eager Toronto blossom fans, the bloom date has yet moved up again to see a bloom start as early as later this week!
According to the site, the recent warm weather over the past weekend has accelerated the buds’ development to “the point where all the trees are now in a clear stage 5 of development.” Stage 5, for those of you new to the cherry blossom game, means a full bloom is expected within 6-10 days.
It’s still up to this week’s weather to decide when the full bloom will take place, but the website predicts the first blossoms to appear in the next couple of days.
You can check in here for updates throughout the week.
And start getting excited!
