Toronto cafe visited by Ryan Gosling and Tom Hanks is closing
Another fixture in the city’s cafe scene is shuttering.
“It is with great sadness that I must announce the Grinder Coffee’s last day will be Sunday, October 27, 2019,” reads the Instagram post announcing the beloved local cafe’s closing.
Known across the city for attracting both Tom Hanks and Ryan Gosling during consecutive TIFF runs, the coffee shop is citing “the cost of leased business premises” as the reason behind the closure.
“No amount of press or success makes us immune from the perils of small business ownership,” the closing announcement reads.

The post reads that despite working from the start of the year towards a lease renewal, and working with a lawyer, the cafe will not be able to stay at its current location.
Still, the announcement isn’t totally sad. Because from the tone of the closing line, there’s a glimmer of hope that something else could be coming from this spot in the future.
“I’m not sure what the next step will be on my journey but as they say when one door closes…” the post reads.

But for now, October 27 will be closing time for this caffeine-slingin’ celebrity hot spot.
