Toronto coffee shop gunning for a visit from Tom Hanks during TIFF

Toronto’s soon to be buzzing with celebrity sightings, as the 44th annual Toronto International Film Festival descends upon the city.
But one celebrity sighting in particular has a certain coffee shop crossing its fingers and toes… and starting a social media campaign.

Leading up to the festival, Grinder Coffee on Gerrard has formally invited Tom Hanks to visit the shop, using the hashtag #tomneedsgrinder to get his attention.

Currently on Day 4 of the “campaign,” the shop is posting daily images that feature a cut-out of Hanks in the shop, holding a Grinder coffee mug.

Last year, the shop organized the same plan to inspire a visit from Ryan Gosling — it worked! Following the premiere of his film First Man, the actor paid the coffee shop a visit to the delight of staff.
And this happened… #ryanneedsgrinder worked. The man himself showed up. What a good sport, a well brought up Canadian boy. We truly appreciate Ryan taking the time the time to visit us during #tiff. Take that @idriselba your loss. pic.twitter.com/8rMMWOs32J

“The man himself showed up. What a good sport, a well brought up Canadian boy. We truly appreciate Ryan taking the time the time to visit us during #tiff,” reads a tweet accompanying a photo of Gosling and an employee posted on Twitter.
And the year prior, the coffee shop attempted to get Idris Elba to stop in. Unfortunately, the Molly’s Game actor was a no-show, hence the Idris Elba jab in the tweet.

Will Hanks stop in like Gosling did, or will his schedule be too jam-packed for a quick cup of joe?
Only time will tell.
