You can now check whether or not a residential high-rise has passed its fire prevention inspection anytime.

Toronto Fire Services (TFS) has made that fire prevention inspection results for highrise residential buildings in Toronto available online.

“Fire prevention and enforcement strategies aim to increase public safety and awareness,” said Fire Chief Matthew Pegg. “TFS is committed to transparency in data reporting, and the availability of the highrise inspection results provides residents with additional information and data related to the fire safety of their residences.”

The results are available through the City’s website, and are provided for highrise properties inspected as of January 1, 2017. The list includes properties where violations of the Ontario Fire Code have been found and addressed, as well as properties that had no observable violations.

“I want to applaud Toronto Fire Services for providing residents with open access to this much needed information,” said Mayor John Tory. “Providing the public with information about the fire safety of their highrise residential buildings just makes sense. I’m glad the City and TFS were able to provide this information in a modern, accountable and accessible way.”

The fire department also said that it will continue to explore additional opportunities to increase the release and access of data through the City’s Open Data portal.
