Drive-in theatres can officially reopen in Ontario

While going to see movies at your local cinema is still a no-go, attending your local drive-in theatre can now officially happen.

Over the weekend, the Ontario government, amended an emergency order to allow drive-in movie theatres that were in existence before May 29, 2020 to reopen.

There will still be restrictions in place, but the amendment aims to “help support communities and local businesses recover from the devastating economic impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak.”

Monte McNaughton, Minister of Labour for Training & Skills Development, said as of May 31 movie theatres can reopen following health and safety requirements.

While the drive-in theatres in the GTA don’t have a specific reopen date, they are actively working on getting the information on opening their doors again soon, so everyone can enjoy seeing the movies.
