Toronto bars serving holiday drinks for charity this season

Dec 2 2019, 5:32 pm

This holiday season, you can raise your glass, and some funds, for an important initiative.

Because multiple Toronto bars are serving up variations of eggnog, with a boozy twist, to guests from December 13 to 20 through the Nog Your Socks Off event.

Opening night of the event will begin with an all-night nog crawl. And all week long, for each glass of nog sold, a portion of the proceeds will go to Socks 4 Souls, where the funds will be used to buy pairs of socks for someone in need in Southwestern Ontario.

Socks 4 Souls Canada is a non-profit, volunteer organization committed to contributing warmth, comfort, dignity, mobility, and health to homeless people by providing them with new, clean socks.

According to Nog Your Socks Off organizers, socks are the most needed but least donated item of clothing to homeless shelters, and over 20% of medical problems experienced by homeless people are related to foot care.

New socks minimize the possibility of frostbite and reduce the risk of cellulitis, fungal infection, and other ailments, organizers say. And, good foot care allows folks better access food, shelter, medical and housing services.

Bars participating in Nog Your Socks Off currently include:

à toi – B1-214 King Street West
Bar Neon – 1226 Bloor Street West
Civil Liberties – 878 Bloor Street West
Earlscourt BBQ – 1278 St Clair Avenue West

Those who wish to donate further can do so on the Socks 4 Souls website, and it’s not too late to be added to the list of participating bars. If you’re a restauranteur who wants to get involved, check out Nog Your Socks Off.

Keep an eye on the event’s website to watch as more bars get added. And drink up, knowing that these sips are making a difference.
