It seems that people are jumping the gun and are celebrating the end of the pandemic due to COVID-19 transmission rates trending downward across Canada.
A year and a half into the pandemic, people are rightfully exhausted by COVID-19, as it brought with it the restrictions that have limited our ability to gather and has led to an overall lower quality of life.
But with variants still in the air, now more than ever, people should strive to be as vigilant as possible to prevent any further flareups.

There’s no consensus on what metrics need to be met to actually declare the pandemic over.
Most provinces across the country are still in the midst of various phases of their restart plans.
In British Columbia, 46 new cases of COVID-19 were announced today. In Alberta, cases went up slightly from the previous day, going from 136 to 138.
Ontario reported fewer than 200 cases. In Quebec, 67 new cases of COVID-19 were reported.
While many provinces are seeing the lowest or near all-time lowest COVID-19 cases along with great vaccination rates, we’re still far from zero cases, and we’re still a ways to go until 100% of the population is vaccinated. Due to vaccine hesitancy and other medical conditions, this number may likely never be reached.
Earlier today, global health officials reported on a new Lambda variant, which is feared to be resistant to vaccines.
The Canadian Medical Association made their voices heard on social media.

So while we are close to the finish line, there’s a bit of running left to go in this seemingly never-ending marathon.
