A total of 26 NHL players have tested positive for COVID-19 since the league moved into Phase 2 on June 8.

There are 250 players that have reported to team facilities for optional participation in on-ice practice. Those players are required to follow the NHL’s strict safety rules and have been tested.

A total of 1,450 tests have been administered, the league says, with 15 players testing positive — an increase in four since June 19.

Meanwhile, some players have chosen to train away from official team facilities, often at community rinks near their offseason homes. Those players aren’t subject to the NHL’s rules, nor are they required to be tested.

The NHL says it is aware of 11 additional players who have not reported to team facilities that have tested positive for the coronavirus, bringing the total for this month up to 26.

“All players who have tested positive have been self-isolated and are following CDC and Health Canada protocols,” the NHL said in a statement. “The NHL will continue to provide regular updates on the number of tests administered to players and the results of those tests.”

Players from around the league are making their way back to their team’s home cities, in preparation for training camp to begin next week, on July 10.
