11 new restaurants opening in Toronto this year

Despite all the gloom in the last few months, Toronto’s restaurant industry has proven to be resilient as more restaurants are set to open before the year ends.

Here’s a list of a few Toronto restaurants that have opened and are slated to open by the end of the year:

Nord Lyon

The closest you can get to French cuisine in Toronto. Soft, delicious pastries from Croissants, French Baguette, Viennoiseries, Sandwiches, and more. Opening very soon, Nord Lyon calls Queen Street West area home.

Opening this fall, Oji Seichi is Toronto’s newest Ramen joint in East Chinatown. The new locale prides itself on using age-old Japanese techniques and local ingredients to create tasteful ramen dishes.

Little Sister

You can enjoy Indonesian cuisine at Little Sister when they open their new location on Portland Street. Their menu offers skewers, snacks, sides, and traditional dishes. Many of which feature their homemade spice blends.

Matty’s Patty’s Burger Club

Drum roll, please! Well-known Toronto chef, Matty Matheson, has embarked on a new venture and has opened a burger joint in the city. Matty’s Patty’s calls the Trinity Bellwoods Park area home, where they’re currently getting things rolling at the new restaurant.

Hazukido Canada

A bakery dedicated to a huge variety of croissants is opening its first location in North America, and it will be calling Toronto home.

On November 11, Hazukido will have its grand opening in The Atrium, Unit E-01, 595 Bay Street, where guests will be able to indulge in 14 different flavoured croissants made fresh daily.

PAI Toronto is expanding this fall and will be bringing Chef Nuit’s Thai cuisine to the Yonge and Eglinton area by the end of this year. The new restaurant will be located at 2335 Yonge Street in a two-storey building, which will house two private dining rooms and multiple dining “coves” that can seat groups of four to 30.

As part of its North American expansion, the fast-food chain Jollibee is opening a new restaurant location in Scarborough by the end of this year. Continuing with their “aggressive” North American expansion in both the U.S and Canada, the new Scarborough location will be at 1900 Eglinton Avenue East.

Kettleman’s Bagel Co.

The time has finally come: Kettleman’s is getting ready to open its 24/7, Montreal-style bagel shop in Toronto next week. Ottawa’s popular bagel shop announced last year that they would be opening a new location in Etobicoke’s Alderwood Plaza. In a recently shared Instagram post, the Kettleman team announced they hope to open the new location on November 10.

For cookie lovers north of Toronto, you don’t have to travel downtown anymore to get your hands on Craig’s Cookies as they have officially welcomed customers into their new store at 1581 Bayview Avenue.

A new Middle Eastern-inspired restaurant is opening in Toronto by the end of the year, offering a bold menu full of flavour, with a bit of a kick to shake things up. Gusto 54 Restaurant Group, the name behind Toronto favourites like Trattoria Nervosa, Gusto 101, and PAI Northern Thai Kitchen, is bringing Azhar Kitchen & Bar to 96 Ossington Avenue. An opening date has not been announced yet; however, the group plans to open the restaurant later this year.

From the west coast and now the east! Minami, an elevated sushi experience, is opening a new restaurant in Toronto this month. Minami Toronto will be calling King Street home as it opens its first Toronto location – its third across the country. Well known and popular in Vancouver, on November 17, the new restaurant will be opening its doors right at 4 pm.
