1 person dead after overnight shooting in downtown Toronto

One man is dead and another person is suffering life-threatening injuries after an overnight shooting occurred near Regent Park, according to Toronto police.

An initial tweet posted by Toronto Police Service around 10:45 on Wednesday indicates that the sound of gunshots had been reported near Dundas Street and River Street.

The shots were believed to have potentially come from a balcony.

Two victims, both with life-threatening injuries, were found on scene and rushed to hospital, according to police.

Law enforcement later said that the shots were determined not to have come from an elevated position, and that the suspects had fled the scene.

On Thursday morning, an update said that one of the victims had been pronounced dead.
