What to eat in and around Seattle today: Frelard Tamales

Jul 13 2020, 9:21 pm

Pop on down to Frelard Tamales for some of the best corn-husk-wrapped dough in the city.

The spot serves up nine types of tamales, with both cooked and uncooked options so that you can munch on one while taking some home to freeze for later.

Each .5 pound tamale is packed with high-quality ingredients and costs $5 to make up for the fact that Frelard team members are paid higher than minimum wage, receive health benefits, and can enjoy paid holidays and vacation.

This spot serves up five vegetarian tamales: jalapeno with cheese, sweet corn, refried beans with cheese, black beans with fajita-style veggies, and sweet raisin — the latter two are vegan.

Meat tamales are cooked in pork lard and are always gluten-free. Meat flavors include salsa Verde chicken, salsa roja pork, and chorizo and cheese.
