Take an icy dip at this year's Polar Plunge in Portland

Feb 3 2020, 9:24 pm

The annual Oregon Law Enforcement Polar Plunge is making its return to Broughton Beach Park on Saturday, February 22, 2020.

The cool event challenges brave people to dip into frigid waters for a good cause: to raise money for Special Olympics Oregon. According to Polar Plunge organizers, all funds go towards supporting the programming and events of more than 12,000 athletes statewide.

In addition to the icy-cold plunge, the event will also feature a 5K race, and a 10K race, each ending in the freezing cold waters.

When choosing to register, individuals can choose to join a team, create a team, or register as an individual participant. You can also choose to sign up for the 5k run, 10k run, or just the polar plunge itself.

Each team or individual is urged to fundraise for Special Olympics Oregon, with certain incentives in place. Those raising $250 are awarded a Nike event sweatshirt, those who raise $500 will be awarded a Nike event half-zip shirt, while those raising $700 will be awarded a Nike backpack.

Regardless of if you make the fundraising goals, all plunge participants will receive a polar plunge event t-shirt, while race finishers will walk out with a super chill medal.
