Valerie Plante has officially been sworn in as the Mayor of Montreal.

Plante beat incumbent Denis Coderre in the Montreal municipal election, which took place on November 5. Plante and her party, Projet Montreal, won over 51% of the vote.

Besides Plante, 102 elected officials were also sworn in to serve a four-year term.

“I want to move Montreal forward and my team is ready to make our vision a reality. I dream of a city where traveling is not synonymous with frustration or danger. I dream of a city on a human scale, where life is good, work and play. I dream of a city where families can become homeowners without breaking the bank,” said Plante in a statement.

“I dream of a city where startups can grow and prosper and where big companies come to live. This city, I want to build it with you, Montrealers and Montrealers. I hope to make you dream, to show you how beautiful and welcoming Montreal is and how it will be, to make you believe in a better future and to get involved in the decisions that will take us there.”

Plante is the first female mayor of Montreal.
