
Montreal’s outgoing mayor Denis Coderre says he will be leaving politics after losing the municipal election to Valerie Plante of Projet Montreal.
“I’m leaving with my head held high, that Montreal is an exceptional city, that Montreal is a metropolis that’s the envy of the world,” Coderre said in his concession speech on Sunday night.

Coderre served only one term as mayor. Before that he spent 16 years as a member of parliament.
Some of Coderre’s biggest political moments during his time as mayor included introducing the pit bull ban, the Champlain Bridge project, and bringing the controversial Formula E race to the city.
