Uber Freight is driving into the Canadian trucking industry
Uber is joining Canada’s $68 billion trucking industry.
Uber Freight announced its expansion into the Great White North on Wednesday, with plans to facilitate seamless domestic and cross-border loads.
This is Uber Freight’s first presence in North America after scaling its operations in Germany, the Netherlands, and Poland.

The move will help truck drivers connect with shipping companies, similar to how regular Uber works with riders and drivers. The platform connects carriers to the right loads and shippers to “a nationwide capacity,” according to the company.
Canada’s trucking industry is currently facing what Uber calls a “severe and growing driver shortage,” which has led to a limited and constrained freight capacity.
The Uber Freight platform aims to help increase efficiency throughout the industry and reduce trucks driving “empty miles” across the continent.

“Uber is a global company with a global mindset, and the freight business is no exception. Since the beginning, we have been dedicated to scaling our operations to enable opportunity for both Uber Freight and the shippers and carriers that keep our world moving,” said Lior Ron, head of Uber Freight. “We are thrilled to expand to Canada, our neighbour and critical trade partner, to together unlock the massive opportunity the North American trucking market represents.”
Starting Wednesday, local carriers and drivers are able to book and move domestic and cross border loads through the Uber Freight app, which is available in both English and French.
