Elementary schools across Quebec have been given the go-ahead to host graduating ceremonies, provided the events respect public health guidelines.

Education Minister Jean-Francois Roberge made the announcement on Monday after saying students across the province had been lobbying for one last opportunity to see their peers and teachers.

The ceremonies will include chances for students to pose for photos and sign yearbooks, says Roberge.

Secondary schools across Quebec have been closed until September as a result of the pandemic. Certain elementary schools throughout the province have reopened with those in the Montreal metropolitan area staying closed until next school year.

Roberge stressed that graduation ceremonies must be organized to comply with all of the provincial health measures in place. He says further details will be communicated to schools and graduates in the coming days.
