Montreal police are warning about a fake publication notice that has been circulating on social media.
The false publication claims that the SPVM has sent a warning about a plot to commit sexual assault, according to the news release.
“This message is false. No cases of this nature have been reported in Montreal,” says the SPVM.

The fake document, which includes the Ville de Montreal logo and the SPVM badge icon addresses women who are walking from “home, school, or anywhere” to avoid a “little boy crying and asking you to take him to an address he has on a piece of paper.”
The falsified publication says to take the supposed crying boy to a police department and that “this is new way gang rape. The incident is getting worse by the day [sic].”
It ends by saying “please make sure you share!!”
The SPVM urges citizens to be very cautious and to verify the sources of messages before sharing it with contacts.
