While gyms throughout the province were given the green light to open as of June 21, YMCAs in Quebec had targetted August as its initial reopening phase.

As of August 10, three Montreal YMCAs will reopen to the public before announcing dates for Quebec’s eight other locations.

The Cartierville, Du Parc, and Westmount YMCAs will reopen on Monday with pools set to reopen in the same locations on September 8.

“It is with a lot of pleasure that following the recent announcement made by the government, we are preparing to welcome you back to your Y. Our team is working very hard to prepare everything for your return,” says the YMCA Quebec website. “Not only do we want to follow mandatory public health guidelines, we would also like to be prudent for the sake of your safety and ours.”

The YMCA also announced guidelines that all gymgoers are expected to follow: all guests have to wear a mask upon entering the centre, follow physical distancing guidelines “at all times,” and reserve a spot in the conditioning room or classes to participate.

Membership payments have been automatically suspended since March 23, and gymgoers can choose whether to reactivate their membership or leave it on hold. Members wishing to reactivate must call the gym at 514-687-9622 or email [email protected].

Membership fees will automatically be kept on hold if the YMCA doesn’t hear directly from its members.

The Cartierville, Du Parc, and Westmount YMCA centres will no longer offer towel service and the sauna, spa, and steam rooms will remain closed until further notice.

More information and reservation sign-ups can be found on the YMCA Quebec website.
