Welcoming around 3.19 million international visitors, Montreal ranked as one of the top destinations for North American travellers this year, according to Mastercard’s 2019 Global Destination Cities Index.
The Global Destination Cities Index looks at visitor volume and spend in the 200 largest cities in the world, and includes both vacation and business travellers in the previous year.
The annual list found that Montreal was the 66th most visited city in the world and the 10th most visited city in North America.

According to the report, Montreal’s international overnight arrivals stay an average of eight nights (7.9 to be exact) and spend an average of approximately $124 CAD a day.
The report also found that 82.2% of visitors were in town for leisure, while 17.8% were in the city for business.
The United States, at 61.9% and France, at 13.9% were the top origin markets of international overnight arrivals in 2018 with Mexico and the UK adding in at 2.4% and 2.2%, respectively.
New York, Los Angeles, and Miami took home the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd spots for the top 3 most visited destinations in North America.
Toronto ranked 4th and Vancouver ranked 7th in representing the Great White North.
