Close to 29,000 Montrealers around the island are dealing with power outages this morning as Environment Canada’s rainfall warning continues into its second day.

“Between 50 and 80 millimetres are expected” throughout Montreal and the Montérégie regions by this evening, says the alert.

The weather agency also warned that heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.

The power outages have affected homes and businesses in downtown Montreal, Cote Saint-Luc, NDG, Hampstead, Verdun, Montreal West, Outremont, Rosemont-la-Petite-Patrie, Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, and parts of the South Shore.

Hydro-Québec expects power to return “around 10:30 am.”
