Environment Canada issues rainfall warning for Montreal

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Montreal and its surrounding areas.

“Nearly 50 millimetres” of rain is expected throughout the island and the Montérégie
area, starting this evening through to Thursday night, according to the weather agency.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” reads the alert. “Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.”

The warning, issued in the early morning hours on Wednesday, is in effect for the following areas:

  • Châteauguay – La Prairie area
  • Laval area
  • Longueuil – Varennes area
  • Montréal Island area

Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected. The weather agency urges citizens to continually monitor weather reports and updates.
