Mickey Mouse is coming to Place des Arts next month and he’s bringing the rest of the Fantasia squad with him.
In celebration of the iconic film’s 75th anniversary, Montreal’s premier film concert orchestra, l’Orchestre FILMharmonique, will be performing the movie’s famous soundtrack while Mickey and his broomstick get lost in the magical world of Fantasia on a giant screen at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.
“The feature film remains unique in the history of motion pictures, and one of the most persistently fascinating intersections between classical music and popular culture,” reads the ‘Fantasia in Concert’ press release.

Guests can relive the childhood classic alongside the powerful scores of Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, and Stravinsky on June 21 and 22.
“Fantasia was Disney’s boldest experiment and culminated his desire to blend animated imagery with classic music,” concluded the release. “What had begun as a vehicle to bring new popularity to Mickey Mouse’s career, blossomed into a full-blown feature that remains unique in the annals of animation.”

These two concerts, conducted by Alain Trudel, will consist of both excerpts from the 1940 version and Fantasia 2000. The animated film will consist of visuals and music only and won’t contain any dialogue.
