The City of Montreal declares state of emergency as flooding potential increases

The City of Montreal has declared a state of emergency due to flooding potential and rising floodwaters throughout the island of Montreal.

Montreal’s Mayor Valérie Plante made the announcement on Friday afternoon.


Upcoming torrential downpours worsen the situation as the city’s rivers are already overflowing.

The emergency decree allows the City of Montreal to order mandatory evacuations, if necessary.

Earlier this morning, city officials advised citizens what to do in case of flooding, offering guidelines of what Montrealers should do if the flooding gets worse.
