This Montreal restaurant has the world’s first interactive bartending robot

Remember the old days when regular human bartenders would pour you drinks? That is so 2017. The world’s first interactive robot bartender will be serving up drinks, starting tomorrow, at Montreal’s new restaurant, Le XVI XVI (Le 1616).

Le XVI XVI offers a Franco-Quebec culinary experience fused with technology as their robotic bartender, R1-B1, serves drinks at the restaurant’s first-floor lounge.

What makes R1-B1 stand out (besides the fact that it’s a robot) is that it doesn’t only serve drinks, it interacts with clients, making it the first of its kind in the world.

R1-B1 (no relation to R2-D2) understands drink orders, quantities and interacts with customers with a sense of humour, in French.

Considering R1-B1 stands for ‘Robot 1 – Barman 1,’ we might be in store for more robotic drink slingers down the line as Le 1616 strives to innovative new methods.

The tech-savvy restaurant will also incorporate a new concept on tables where guests can connect their phones to call the waiting staff, advise the valet to get the car or leave a social media comment, all without downloading any software.

The kitchen will also impress as patrons can watch live cooking shows as their meals are put together with unusual, new, and stunning cooking techniques.

“Culinary art is in constant evolution, especially with the perpetual arrival of new technologies,” explains Cédric Moindrot, the consultant director for Le XVI XVI in a press release with Daily Hive.

In the meantime, R1-B1 clocks in for its first robotic bar-tending shift tomorrow.
