That’s the opening line for an ad on Kijiji that’s now been viewed more than 85,000 times.

It’s a pitch from a Smith Falls farmer who is offering the “permanent use of a wonderful waterfront historical farm” free of charge to a potential candidate “willing to care for some farm and domestic animals.”

Included in the idyllic deal,
Four barns, a paved driveway, some equipment and a vehicle and if necessary free training to run a hobby farm. The house is a picturesque 1830 stone home in good condition, spacious with wood floors and a fabulous wood burning stove to compliment the oil heating system.
The running costs in themselves are not that high all things considered. The fifty tiled acres is currently an organic waterfront farm.
Location within an hours drive to Ottawa and a two minute drive into Smith Falls. There is fishing on the property should you desire and some locals swim in the waterway here as well.
The farm owner will even pay the cost of food and vet bills.
The catch?
Hard work and commitment… and a “genuine interest in animal welfare… Definitely not for flighty types…”

The ad goes on to describe ideal candidates; “a couple or more people to split the chores… Those with home based businesses…,” those who have “entertained thoughts of entering the organic farming market,” or dreamed of running an animal sanctuary. Even business proposals for the property will be considered.
