Environment Canada issues severe thunderstorm watch for Montreal

The muggy and dangerous temperatures in Montreal will have company as Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Greater Montreal area, as well.

Meteorologists are tracking a thunderstorm capable of producing strong winds, large hail and heavy downfalls of rain.

The alert warns that very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, toss loose objects, blow down trees and force large vehicles to swerve off the road. Boaters should also brace for strong gusts over the water.

The high temperatures, coupled with humidex values in the low 40s, could also make way for lightning strikes.

The storm is slated to affect the island of Montreal, Chateauguay and La Prairie, Longueuil and Laval.

Environment Canada urges citizens to “take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.”

The website also recommends Montrealers monitor alerts and follow ongoing forecasts.
