Because of the massive amounts of outreach, the New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS) has released a statement with multiple examples of what you can do to help with fighting the bush fires that continue to afflict the country.

First and foremost, and perhaps most obviously, the best way to assist is to donate money.

Funding allows people and organizations to purchase the supplies they need while also supporting the local businesses that have also been affected by the fires.

“We know many people want to donate physical items such as food and clothing, but these take up much-needed community space,” the NSWRFS says in the statement.

There are multiple organizations and funds where you can donate to support those impacted by these terrible fires. Examples that the NSWRFS provides include the Australian Red Cross Disaster Recovery and ReliefSalvation Army Disaster Appeal, and St Vincent de Paul Society Bushfire Appeal (NSW).

Additionally, you can choose to support the brave volunteers who have dedicated their time and risked their lives to help ensure the safety of the region.

“While brigades are provided equipment to protect the community, donations assist them deliver additional services to the community,” the statement reads.

If you would like to donate to assist these men and women, you can do so through the NSW RFS Donations Page. You can also make an online or mail-in donation to the NSW RFS Trust Fund or a participating local brigade.

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service has also set up dedicated bank accounts to gather donations for the families of volunteer firefighters whose lives have unfortunately been lost while on duty this season.

These accounts are for Firefighter Samuel McPaul as well as Firefighters Geoffrey Keaton and Andrew O’Dwyer.

There is a multitude of organizations seeking support. Volunteer organizations such as BlazeAid aims to assist the families and individuals in rural areas after natural disasters, such as floods and fires.

Additionally, many wildlife organizations are also in dire need of donations to help with the relocation and medical treatment of the nearly 500 million animals who have fallen victim to the unforgiving blazes.

If you would like to help the desperate wildlife of Australia, possible organizations seeking assistance include Koalas in Care Inc., the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, WWF’s Koala Crisis fund, and WIRES Wildlife Rescue.
