Peruvian ecotourism company Rainforest Expeditions provides travellers with the unique opportunity to venture into the dense heart of the Amazon Rainforest and stay in one of their luxury lodges.

“Our expeditions offer immersion in nature as well as a cultural exchange in the Peruvian Amazon aimed at providing a comprehensive experience of the rainforest,” the company’s website states.

“By staying at one of our eco-lodges, you make a meaningful contribution to our sustainable efforts preserving and protecting pristine land and wildlife populations and caring of the people.”

Visitors can choose to stay in one of four lodges.

There is the private bungalow of the Amazon Villa, but don’t let that fool you, because you are far from roughing it with this lodge’s lush amenities.

The lodge features a 30-metre Canopy Tower that provides surreal views of the extensive rainforest surrounding it.

The rooms also feature an open wall, allowing guests to see out in to the jungle and maybe even catch a glimpse of the monkeys and other inhabitants within the diverse ecosystem.

Guests can also have the distinctive experience of visiting the local Ese Eja community, “the true guardians of the jungle!”

The meaningful, community-conscious experience includes learning about the local heritage, fish practices, and food.

Another lodge is the Refugio Amazonas, the headquarters of Rainforest Expeditions’ Citizen Science program, Wired Amazon, which “connects regular people with the mind-blowing science of the rainforest.”

The collection of research projects encompasses everything from the mammal populations inhabiting the jungle canopy to research on beautiful Tiger Moths.

Optional activities for guests include moonlighting as an Amazon scientist, observing the stunning colours of Macaw Parrots at the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, and observing the shiest animals of the Amazon through the AmazonCam Project.

Guests can also opt to explore the enriching natural and cultural phenomena of the Tambopata jungle at the Posada Amazonas lodge.

Posada Amazonas is an ideal location to observe the parrots that are unique to the rainforest.

Guests can observe the breathtaking view from the lodge’s Canopy tower.

They are also able to explore the Chucho Clay Lick.

Perhaps one of the most unique features of this specific lodge is its accessibility to the tranquil Oxbow Lake, “one of the most important and distinct habitats in the Amazon.”

After a quick boat ride from the lodge and a short hike inland to the lake, guests will take a guided catamaran ride to observe the extensive wildlife surrounding it.

As a result of the lake’s diverse ecosystem and dense fish population, visitors have a likely chance to see a Hoatzin, a large, albeit slightly strange-looking, prehistoric-looking bird.

They also have the opportunity to see other wildlife, including rare Giant Otters, Squirrel Monkeys, and Macaws.

Visitors may even get to see some Piranha, although the company emphasizes its “in a safe way, don’t worry!”

Last but certainly not least, the Tambopata Research Center lodge is the only one of the four to lie within the Tambopata National Reserves, making it one of the most isolated lodges in all of South America, according to the company’s website.

The lodge’s location makes it ideal for those wishing to fully immerse themselves in the “best wildlife the Amazon jungle has to offer.”

Visitors staying at this lodge can choose from activities such as the Night Walk, which takes guests on a walking tour to try and see the nocturnal animals that take over the Amazon at night, including snakes, frogs, insects, and more.

Additionally, they can embark on the Palm Swamp Trail to hear the chorus of frogs co-mingling and explore an entirely different ecosystem.

Finally, guests can trek through the floodplain forest on the Monkey Search.

For more in-depth information regarding the individual lodges, as well as the various rates, you can book online through the Rainforest Expeditions website.
