Red Diamond House Restaurant, a popular Chinese restaurant on Whyte Avenue that has been a mainstay in the area for more than 50 years, has announced it is closing its doors.

The sprawling spot confirmed to Daily Hive that it will be closing permanently once it runs out of stock, adding that the phones had been “ringing off the hook” on Monday after news of the closure broke.

Since 1975, the restaurant has served generations of Edmontonians, with many remembering coming here as kids or being brought by their parents and grandparents.

It’s best known for its “legendary” buffet and comforting menu with dishes like wor wonton soup, spicy amin chicken, Shanghai noodles and more.

The closure will leave a large vacant space in the Wayne 75 strip mall at the corner of 75 Street and Whyte Avenue, leaving Papa John’s, Ever-Ready Convenience, and the Bonnie Doon Veterinary Clinic.

As far as restaurants go, 50 years is no small feat, and this is one spot that we will surely miss! And from the sounds of it, you’ll want to get there sooner than later for one last plate.
