Darnell Nurse's dad gave a legendary Edmonton Oilers lineup read

The Edmonton Oilers managed to find a 4-1 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night, and they might’ve been helped along by Darnell Nurse’s dad.

Edmonton is in the midst of the team’s annual father’s trip with games in Chicago and Nashville this week. Among the dads taking part is Richard Nurse, a former CFL wide receiver and father of the Oilers defenceman.

Richard has had his fair share of viral moments while cheering on his son, with the most notable coming way back in 2016 when he cheered on Darnell during a fight against the Ottawa Senators.

He had another legendary moment pregame in Chicago, as he was given the responsibility of reading out the starting lineup.

“We got number 93, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins,” Richard started things out. “We got the man, the myth, and the f***ing legend, Connor McDavid! We got pretty boy Zach Hyman! My man, the one and only Mister Ekholm, god loves you, baby. The bomb! The Bouch. The Bouch Man!

“In between the pipes tonight, the sweet lookin’, good dressin’, new pads havin’ motherf***er, Connor Ingram!”

Three of the players involved in that lineup read had big nights for the Oilers. Evan Bouchard finished the night with two goals and three points, Connor McDavid extended his points-streak to 19 games, and Connor Ingram turned aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced.

While all three are very talented players, you’d have to imagine they had a bit of extra pep in their step after that kind of introduction. Bouchard, Ingram, and McDavid also have their dads on this trip as well, which is sure to have inspired them a bit more as well.

“Great start to the trip,” Bouchard told Sportsnet’s Gene Principe after the game. “Growing up, [my dad] was always there… so it’s good to have him here for this.”

Lost in the shuffle of the dad’s trip is also the fact that the Oilers are now 5-0-0 in their new cream-coloured alternate jerseys and have outscored opponents by a crooked 30-11 margin in the uniforms.

Edmonton will try to make it a perfect 6-0-0 on Tuesday night as they visit the Nashville Predators. Maybe we’ll get another epic lineup read as well.
