Zach Hyman’s timeline to return from injury has been pushed back by the Edmonton Oilers.
Initially, it was expected that Hyman would be able to return for a Nov. 1 game against the Chicago Blackhawks, but that will not be the case. Following practice on Wednesday morning, head coach Kris Knoblauch met with the media, where he gave an updated timeline for the 33-year-old to return to action.
Instead of Nov. 1, Knoblauch confirmed that Hyman will be out for at least another week.
“He looks ready to go, I want to put him in,” Knoblauch said. “Our medical staff is holding him back… He’ll still be week-to-week. We said it was bare minimum Nov. 1, and it won’t be Nov. 1. It’ll be at least a week after that.
“We want him back. He looks ready, but we’re looking long picture and making sure we don’t have any setbacks.”
"When you make the other team defend it's such an easier game to play."

This will rule him out for Saturday’s game against the Blackhawks as well as Edmonton’s two-game road trip against the Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues next week. The earliest he can return on this new schedule is Nov. 8 against the Colorado Avalanche.
Hyman spoke with the media as well on Wednesday morning, where he revealed how he’s been feeling on the ice as of late.
“I feel good skating, nice to join the group,” Hyman said. “I feel really good, I feel close [to returning]… I’m excited to come back and join the group, bring some new energy whenever that is.
“At the end of the day, the doctors are the ones who are there to protect you from yourself at times and make sure that when you do return, you are able and ready.”

He is still recovering from a wrist injury that he suffered during last year’s Western Conference Final against the Stars. The injury knocked him out of the Stanley Cup Final, and he has missed the first month of the new season.
Though his timeline has been pushed back, the former 50-goal scorer has been a regular participant in Oilers practice over the last few weeks. He has not been able to take part in regular line rushes; however, he has acted as an extra forward.
While the Oilers do seem to have partially figured out their scoring woes to begin the season, getting Hyman back into the lineup will be a big boost. He has been one of the team’s best offensive players over the last several seasons and has played in a top-line role for the majority of his time in Edmonton.
Even though he won’t be back as early as expected, it’s still good to hear that Hyman hasn’t suffered any major setback in his recovery.
