When the Edmonton Oilers embark on their upcoming three-game California road trip, they’ll be taking to the ice in a different look.
Usually, the team wears their iconic white road jersey, complete with blue and orange accents, for just about every away game. That has been the standard for the past decade or so, with very few exceptions, but that will all change this week.
Instead, the Oilers will opt to bring their alternate jersey, revealed last season, on the road and will wear the cream-coloured uniform for each of the next three away games against the Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, and LA Kings.
Players were testing out the alternate gear during Monday’s practice.

During the debut season of these new threads, Edmonton opted to wear the uniform for two consecutive away games against the Chicago Blackhawks and Nashville Predators in January.
It seems as though they wanted to one-up that this season, as the light cream colour makes it an ideal match for road games, where the home team typically wears a darker jersey.
This will eat up the first chunk of the Oilers’ alternate jersey schedule this season. The team is set to wear the uniform a total of eight times, a number that will be reduced to five once the team returns to Rogers Place next week.
It will then be stored away until Oct. 28, when the Calgary Flames roll into Edmonton for the first Battle of Alberta of the season.
The schedule also has two additional away games on it, with the uniform set to be worn on the road against the Seattle Kraken on Nov. 28 and April 7 vs. the Winnipeg Jets.
