The Edmonton Oilers got some good news today when it comes to Leon Draisaitl’s health.
The 29-year-old played just over 10 minutes last game before leaving with an apparent injury. He just recently returned to the lineup after sitting out some a stretch of games because of another injury, and there were concerns that this new issue might force him to miss a significant amount of time.
While the exact nature of the new injury is unknown, Draisaitl was involved in a few awkward collisions throughout the night before he left the game.

However, coach Kris Knoblauch told reporters today that while the German superstar will miss at least one game, the injury is not something to worry about for the bigger picture.
“He will not be playing tomorrow, and he’s out short-term,” said Knoblauch. “We don’t have an exact timeline.
“Lower body and don’t believe it’s going to be something that’s going to head into the playoffs. We think [he’s] going to be back well before that, so we’re not too concerned, especially with Leon’s pain tolerance and things he’s played through before.”
Draisaitl is in the midst of an incredible season. He’s got 52 goals and 106 points in 71 games, making him the league leader in goals. He’s a top candidate for the Hart Trophy and a massive piece of this Oilers team.
With Draisaitl injured, Knoblauch said there’s a “slight possibility” Trent Frederic makes his Oilers debut tomorrow. The versatile forward has not played since being acquired through trade because of injury.Ā Frederic has 15 points in 57 games so far this season with the Bruins.
The Oilers seem destined to play the Los Angeles Kings in the first round for the fourth consecutive season. They’ve won the series every year for the past three seasons and will hope to have Draisaitl healthy to do so again.
