The Edmonton Oilers are trying to win a Stanley Cup and are giving their players every advantage they can — right down to the urinals they use.
It shouldn’t surprise anybody that Edmonton’s world-class Rogers Place arena is outfitted with all the bells and whistles. The building opened up in 2017 and prided itself on being one of the nicest hockey arenas in not only the NHL but the entire world.
On top of making sure the fan amenities are top-notch, this also includes ensuring Oilers players and staff have the very best gadgets available when it comes to rest, recovery, and working out.
Usually, these areas are kept behind a curtain, but Oilers forward Vasily Podkolzin helped fans get a glimpse in a video interview with Russian media page Cherkas Atlant. This included a look into the high-tech urinals that the Oilers have for their players.
“They say there is this thing about the urinals,” Podkolzin said in a translated version of the video. “Hydration monitoring, it lights up and shows how much water is in your body and how dehydrated you are.”

The urinals the Oilers have for their players measure the amount of water in their bodies and light up three different colours based on how dehydrated they are. Podkolzin mentioned that this is something he believes the LA Kings also use in their facilities.
This kind of high-tech urinal may seem a bit overkill to the average fan, but when NHL players are so hyper-focused on their body and health, it makes a lot of sense to have this sort of thing included.
That isn’t all that Podkolzin showed off behind the scenes. He also took cameras deeper into the team’s recovery room, which includes a pool, hot tub, cold plunge, and an infrared lamp room to help with blood circulation.
“It just shows you how much guys here take care of their bodies,” Podkolzin said. “I never used to do any of this, nobody ever told me I should, I didn’t really ever think about it.
“This season feels so different than the last one.”

The 23-year-old also revealed that the Oilers have their own barbershop inside the arena for their players, complete with a custom barber’s chair and an embroidered Oilers logo. Further, Podkolzin raved about the player’s lounge area, where each player has specially crafted meals based on their current weight.
“If they didn’t make us leave and if we were allowed, I’d literally live here with my family,” Podkolzin joked. “I’d set up a bed on the second floor or something. Seriously, what more do you need?”

It’s quite impressive to see how much stuff goes on behind the scenes to make sure these players are at their very best. With the Oilers prepping for yet another long playoff run, they should have everything they need to get back into the Stanley Cup Final.
