A new Real Canadian Superstore location is coming to southwest Edmonton.
The City of Edmonton issued a building permit on June 10 for the construction of a new grocery store at 20111 Maskêkosihk Tr. NW in the rapidly growing Riverview community.
According to Alberta Major Projects, construction is expected to begin this year.
Daily Hive reached out to Loblaw, the parent company of Real Canadian Superstore, for more information about the project, but did not receive a response before publication.

While details about the Riverview location haven’t been released, Real Canadian Superstores primarily sell groceries, with significant floor space dedicated to electronics, housewares, clothing, pharmacy services, and other household essentials.

The news comes during a rocky year for Edmonton’s grocery landscape, particularly for independent retailers.
In late May, Sunterra Market announced it would close its Commerce Place location after 32 years, ending a long run as a downtown staple. Specialty grocer Tesoro also revealed it will close its Windermere location after less than two years in business.
Earlier this year, L’OCA Quality Market shut down its Edmonton and Sherwood Park stores, with staff telling Daily Hive, “it’s just not a feasible business anymore.”
At the same time, several major chains are expanding. Along with the new Real Canadian Superstore in Riverview, Loblaw-owned No Frills, as well as Costco, are also opening new locations in the city.
