Expect Metro Line and system-wide LRT closures in Edmonton next week

Feb 17 2021, 6:05 pm

Transit users, be aware – there will be closures and service adjustments for the Metro Line and LRT from February 25 to 28.

These adjustments will be happening to accommodate testing and commissioning work for the Metro Line alternative signalling system.

The Metro Line will be closed on February 25 and 26. Customers can use bus routes 8 or 9 to travel between Churchill and NAIT. Capital Line trains will continue to run every 15 minutes between Century Park and Clareview stations.

On February 27 and 28, both the Capital Line and Metro Line will both be closed.

To accommodate transit users on these dates, Capital Line LRT replacement buses will run between the Century Park and Clareview stations every eight minutes. These stops will be marked by a red decal that says “LRT Replacement.”

Metro Line customers are advised to continue using bus routes 8 or 9 between Churchill and NAIT stations during this time. These routes run every 15 to 30 minutes on weekends.

Customers may still see trains running during these dates, but the trains will not be picking up or dropping off passengers.

Once testing and commissioning are complete, a decision will be made about whether Edmonton’s LRT system can transition to the new Alstom system. This switch could occur as early as March 1.
