Spend a night under the stars this winter at this Botanic Garden

As recommended by health officials, if you choose to participate in events outside of your home, please adhere to COVID-19 health and safety measures, including proper physical distancing, mask-wearing, and frequent handwashing. If you are sick, please stay home.

If you’re bored of binge-watching, FaceTiming, or attending virtual events in place of date night, this one is for you.

Try something a little different this winter at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden’s Date Night Under the Stars.

Put some fun back into your evenings with an ice slide built for adults, and kick the romance up a notch by declaring your love on a tree sculpture designed for initials and hearts.

You and your date can explore the gardens, take a selfie in an ice chair, stargaze by the Calla Pond, warm up near a fire pit, and enjoy live music. If that’s not enough for you, there are lots of unique add-ons available.

Add-on activities include guided Moonlight Snowshoeing, Indigenous Dark Skies Storytelling, and having portraits snapped by a light painting photographer.

Couples can also pre-order the Northern Lights Tapas package and enjoy a snack while they walk through the gardens. The tapas include a variety of gourmet savoury and sweet items from some of the region’s best dining establishments.

Tapas are picked up at serving stations located throughout the Garden, and you can round out your experience with a hot chocolate, BC wine, or Alberta craft beer or cider.

New activities and programs are added regularly to keep things fresh, so be sure to check the online event listing for current offerings.
