McDonald’s has just rolled out a new breakfast lineup across Canada, and it’s inspired by the brunch favourite, eggs Benny.
The sandwich, available on an English muffin or your choice of bagel, comes with egg, hickory-smoked bacon, cheese, and a velvety smooth hollandaise-style sauce.
Additionally, joining its lineup of breakfast wraps is the Benny-Style Bacon ‘N Egg Wrap. Here you’ll find egg, a crispy hash brown, cheese, creamy hollandaise-style sauce, lettuce, and tomato all wrapped up in a flour tortilla.
But eggs Benny-inspired breakfast isn’t necessarily a new menu item from McDonald’s per se, as the origins of the Egg McMuffin actually come from the Eggs Benedict.

McDonald’s Canada
According to McDonald’s, in early 1971, owner and operator Herb Peterson in Santa Barbara, California, believed that McDonald’s needed a unique product to ensure a top-performing breakfast menu.
“At first, Herb makes a version of Eggs Benedict, but determines packaged Hollandaise sauce doesnāt do the trick. He replaces the Hollandaise sauce with a slice of cheese, adds a slice of Canadian bacon, and the Egg McMuffin is born (but itās not yet called an Egg McMuffin),” wrote McDonald’s.
Additionally, Peterson is attributed with developing the Teflon rings that give the McMuffin’s eggs their round shape.
