The Stanley Cup rematch between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers is already an instant classic.

This series has had everything through the first two games and after Friday, that includes a Panthers victory.

Brad Marchand scored the game-winner in Game 2, 8:05 into double overtime, as the puck squeaked through Stuart Skinner’s legs on a breakaway deke. Florida won 5-4 and series is now tied 1-1.

It was Marchand’s second goal of the game, as he scored a shorthanded breakaway in the second period that very nearly stood up as the game-winner.

The game went to overtime thanks to Corey Perry, who tied the game for Edmonton with just 18 seconds left in the third period. It nearly blew the roof off Rogers Place in Edmonton.

These two teams wasted no time filling up the scoresheet, combining for five goals and 11 penalties in the first period. The opening frame was also not without controversy, and naturally it centred around Sam Bennett.

Bennett scored the first goal of the game 2:07 into the first period, shortly after getting away with kicking away Mattias Ekholm’s discarded stick.

Evander Kane and Evan Bouchard answered for the Oilers, before Seth Jones tied the game up for Florida.

Cue more Bennett antics — but this time he didn’t get away with it. The Panthers forward conveniently fell into Skinner, landing on the Oilers goalie’s leg.

Bennett received a penalty on the play and the Oilers made him pay.

Connor McDavid had the puck on a string before dishing the puck to Leon Draisaitl, who hammered home perhaps the prettiest goal of the playoffs.

The Panthers held the lead heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation, after second-period goals from Dimitry Kulikov and Marchand.

“Two really good teams. It’s never going to be easy. Regroup and be ready for Game 3,” Draisaitl told reporters post-game.

“At this time of year, you gotta move on. There’s no time [to] think about it too long. Obviously it stings right now, but we have to move on.”

The series now shifts to Florida, with Game 3 scheduled for Monday.
