Iconic Canadian-owned pub chain just opened a new location near Edmonton
A Canadian-owned pub chain has a new location just outside of Edmonton, with Leopold’s Tavern opening its doors in Fort Saskatchewan.
Leopold’s Tavern – or Leo’s as it is commonly known – has an extensive menu of bar food, including Taco Tuesday and Wing Wednesday deals, appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, and a heaping serving of poutine.
The pub is home to the enormous punchbowl poutine that includes five pounds of French fries, a pound of cheese curds, and a litre of gravy, which can be shared with friends.
After holding a soft launch this past weekend, Leo’s Fort Saskatchewan opened to the public yesterday, Aug. 24.
We popped by to check out this new location and to see the chain’s usual iconic interior, and try its delicious food, for ourselves.

The exterior and interior of the building are similar to other Leo’s locations; however, we did learn that the Welcome to Leo’s Fort Saskatchewan sign that hangs on the side of the bar was custom-made by an artist in Victoria, B.C.
The Fort Saskatchewan location holds around 60 outdoor patio seats and room for 120 patrons with indoor seating.
Much like other Leo’s locations, customers are also invited to bring anything they want, as long as it is appropriate, to add to the walls of the restaurant.
When you first walk in, you’ll be greeted by some Fort Saskatchewan Traders jerseys hung up over the bar, keeping in line with how other Leo’s locations like to tout local sports, like the Oilers and Elks in Edmonton and the Flames and Stampeders in Calgary locations.

The store’s general manager told Dished that Fort Saskatchewan has “really shown up” for the new location, with the hopes of becoming a great go-to spot for good late-night eats, drinks, and those looking for a night out in the community.
The bar also currently has peach-flavoured vodka from the Fort Saskatchewan Distillery, a nice nod to a local company in the Fort.
We tried out the mega mozzarella sticks and the deep-fried pickles as appetizers, which were huge and scrumptious.

Service was speedy despite it being a packed house for the restaurant’s first day, with our main dishes arriving warm and looking fantastic.
Although we opted out of trying the iconic punchbowl poutine Leo’s is known for, we settled on a chicken sandwich and an order of the garlic parm double mac.
The portions were huge, and so, so tasty. The chicken sandwich was the perfect crispiness, and the mac and cheese was rich, bursting with cheese, and even had mac and cheese bites on top of the sauced pasta noodles. Delicious!

The pub chain, which originated in Regina, opened its first YEG location on Whyte Avenue in 2021. The new Fort Saskatchewan location is the first to pop up in a community surrounding Edmonton.
Leo’s has 30 locations across Canada, including in Calgary, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Vancouver, Kelowna, and Victoria.
