Major changes are coming to 'Global News Morning' in Edmonton
Major changes are underway at Global News Morning in Edmonton, including a shorter broadcast and the technical side of the show moving east next week.
According to an Instagram post shared by Erin Chalmers, alongside co-anchor Vinesh Pratap, traffic and weather anchor Daintre Christensen, and Britt Prendergast, all four will remain at the helm of Global News Morning, but viewers can expect some noticeable changes.
As of Monday, Aug. 24, the broadcast begins an hour later and runs from 6 to 9 a.m., cutting its airtime from four hours to three.
Another major change will take effect on Sept. 1, when the technical side of the morning show moves from Edmonton to Toronto.
“I’m sure it’ll be another great crew, but saying goodbye to our local team is going to be hard,” the post read. “These people are like family.”

Despite the changes, hosts promised their usual shenanigans will continue.
The most liked comments on the post expressed frustration with the decision.
“That’s ridiculous having a crew from down east controlling the show,” the top comment read.

“First Cierra and Lisa, then Scott from the evening news, now it’s cut the hours, and the crew is from out east?” another user wrote. “I love you four dearly, but I can’t help notice that Corus didn’t lay off any execs, just 800 of its full-time workforce.”
The changes come after twenty-eight people at Global News studios in Alberta were laid off in mid-July, when parent company Corus Entertainment confirmed it was moving its Calgary and Edmonton news production to Toronto.
That round of layoffs also affected two positions in British Columbia, five in Winnipeg, two in Saskatoon, three in the Maritimes, and three in the Ontario region. At the same time, the company said it would also create new news-gathering roles.
Just one month after that announcement, Corus Entertainment cut more jobs last Thursday. The decision will impact positions at Global BC, Global National, and across its talk radio network, including 640 Toronto (CFIQ-AM).
