A town west of Edmonton was just named one of the most underrated towns in Alberta, being noted for its outdoor activities to enjoy year-round.
World Atlas, one of the largest publishing resources in geography, just released its list of the seven most underrated towns in Alberta, and Hinton made the cut.
The small town just off the foot of the Alberta Rockies was noted for being so close to Jasper National Park, as well as the Beaver Boardwalk, a three-kilometre-long wooden pathway that winds through the wetland system around Maxwell Lake. The boardwalk features lovely views, multiple seating areas, interpretative signs, and maybe even a few beavers.

Hinton was also touted for its bike park, numerous hiking trails around the town and surrounding area, and when the snow falls, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are prime things to do. The nearby Rockies also provide ample opportunities for downhill skiing and snowboarding.
The quaint town was founded in 1911 with the establishment of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway station. Like many small Canadian towns, Hinton was shaped by its history of natural resource development. Now, you’ll find a humble and vibrant community with all the modern amenities you could want amongst the natural splendour of Alberta.
